How it works
A message arrives end-to-end encrypted. When it is in a language you do not read and cloud translation is on, your phone decrypts it and sends the text to AiThao’s translation service, which asks a cloud translation model and, if that one is unavailable, a second one. The translation comes back to your phone; AiThao does not store it.
For a voice message, the recording is transcribed, translated and spoken in a synthetic voice when the listener’s phone asks for it.

Questions
Can I turn message translation off?
Yes, in Settings → Translation. Messages then stay as they were written, and nothing is sent for translation.
Does AiThao keep the translations?
No. The translation service returns the translation to the phone that asked for it and does not store it.
