AiThaoMessages and voice messages
In an end-to-end encrypted chat, a message arrives encrypted. If it is in a language you do not read and Cloud translation is on, your phone decrypts it and sends the text, or the voice recording, to AiThao’s translation service. The service passes it to a translation provider and returns the translation. AiThao does not store what it translated.
Cloud translation is on unless you turn it off in Settings → Translation. The app tells you the first time it is used, and marks each message translated this way.
Calls
A translated call sends live speech to the translation service, so it is not end-to-end encrypted. Translation starts only when both people agree, and video is never sent for translation.
What is sent, and what is not
- Sent: the content being translated (message text, or call or voice audio) and the source and target languages.
- Not sent: your name, your contacts, your AiThao Number or your other conversations.
Translation providers
Providers process the content on their own infrastructure under their own terms. AiThao does not control how long they keep it and makes no promise on their behalf. The privacy policy describes the role of each; their names are available on request from the privacy address.
On this website you can try translation without an account: what you type or say is sent to a translation provider and comes back translated, and AiThao keeps neither the recording nor the text.
Questions
Can I use AiThao without cloud translation?
Yes. Turn off Cloud translation in Settings → Translation. Your chats stay end-to-end encrypted, and you read messages as they were written.
Does translation happen on the phone?
No. AiThao does not translate on the device; translation always goes through the cloud.
