Three modes
- Messages: text is translated in 92 languages, and both people see the translation under the original.
- Voice messages: the recording is recognised, translated, shown as text and spoken aloud.
- Calls: speech is understood in 60 languages; in 29 the translation is spoken aloud, in the other 31 it appears as subtitles.
What both people need
Translation works between AiThao users, and everyone chooses their own language, so in a group each member reads in theirs. On a call, translation starts only when both people agree.
Where the words go
Translation happens in the cloud, not on the phone. What is sent, and what is not, is set out in the Security Center, on the page about translation and privacy.
Try it first
The web demo on the homepage translates a short phrase you type or say, without an account. It offers fewer languages than the app and does not make a real call.
Questions
How accurate is automatic translation?
It is made for everyday conversation. For medical, legal or financial matters, do not rely on it alone, and confirm names, numbers and addresses in writing.
Does translation work offline?
No. Translation needs an internet connection.
