Your first conversation across languages
You have AiThao, and so does the person you want to talk to, but you do not share a language. Here is how a first conversation goes, from adding each other to a translated call.
Address, entrance and local time
Keep the place name in its original spelling. Clarify the entrance or landmark. Instead of ‘tomorrow at seven’, write the full date and the meeting city's time. If late, give a new time and ask whether it works.
A confirmation example
Illustrative example, not app output: ‘Please confirm: [day and month], [time] in [city]'s local time. Place: [name and address], entrance [landmark]. Is that correct?’
During the call
Tell the other person you will be using translation and make sure they agree. Take turns, do not interrupt, and pause after each complete thought. Short sentences are easier to recognise and to check.
If a translation sounds odd, say it more simply. Noise and fast speech make recognition worse; moving somewhere quiet often helps more than repeating the same long sentence.
Translation and privacy
A translated call sends live speech to the translation service, so it is not end-to-end encrypted. Translation starts only when both people agree, and video is never sent for translation.
