- Voice messages: you speak in your language, they play the translation in theirs, in your voice. This works on iPhone and Android.
- Calls on iPhone: turn on My voice in calls, and during a translated call the other person hears you in their language, in your voice, about a second later than with the standard voice.
- Without your own voice, translations are spoken in a standard synthetic voice, as before.
Setting it up
Open Settings → Translation, find Voice cloning and tap Clone my voice. Somewhere quiet, read one short consent sentence word for word, then read a short text aloud, calmly, as you would tell it to a friend. The recording stops by itself after 30 seconds, and it is fine not to reach the end.
A moment later your voice is ready. To use it on calls as well, turn on My voice in calls in the same place. Record again replaces the voice; Delete my voice removes it.
Only your voice, only with your consent
A voice can only be made from a recording you make yourself, in the app. The app refuses the recording if the consent sentence was not read in full, if the two parts do not sound like the same person, or if the voice is synthetic. Your voice is used for one thing: speaking your own translations to the people you talk to.
Where your voice is kept
To make the voice, your recording is sent to speech providers. The provider keeps the voice for up to a year; Delete my voice in Settings removes it at any time, and translations go back to the standard voice. The privacy policy has the details.
Questions
Can someone make a copy of my voice from my voice messages?
No. A voice is made only from the consent recording you make yourself in Settings, and the app checks that both parts are the same person.
Does it change what I say?
No. The words are the same translation as before; only the voice that speaks them changes.
Can I stop using it?
Yes. Turn off My voice in calls, or tap Delete my voice to remove it completely.
